RIBA Sterling Prize Nomination for Appleby Blue

JTRE London is thrilled to announce that its landmark social housing development, Appleby Blue, has been officially shortlisted for the prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize. This recognition by the Royal Institute of British Architects celebrates Appleby Blue's innovative approach to social housing and exceptional design, offering a contemporary but appropriate response to the context.
Shortlisted beside five other projects, including the new campus for the London College of Fashion and the restoration of Big Ben, the RIBA Stirling Prize is the highest accolade in UK architecture, awarded annually to the building that has made the greatest contribution to the evolution of architecture in the past year. Appleby Blue's inclusion on this esteemed shortlist is a testament to the collaborative vision and meticulous execution by the entire project team, including architect Witherford Watson Mann and client United S Saviours Trust, and the unwavering commitment of JTRE London.
"We are incredibly proud that Appleby Blue has been shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize," said Nigel Fleming, Managing Director of JTRE London. "This recognition is a profound honour and a powerful endorsement of our dedication to delivering world-class developments that not only enhance the urban landscape but also provide exceptional homes for Londoners. Appleby Blue embodies our philosophy of delivering architectural striking buildings with sustainable living, and we believe it sets a new benchmark in the capital."
Witherford Watson Mann's ambition with Appleby Blue was to create a modern almshouse that reflected the needs for 21st-century living. Facing the challenges of social isolation and dementia, but also the opportunities for an active and involved older age, they worked with United St Saviours to imagine a new community that would be both cohesive and outward-looking. The new almshouse reverses the historic model of retreat, in favor of direct contact with urban life.
JTRE London extends its sincere congratulations to the entire project team and looks forward to the final announcement of the RIBA Stirling Prize winner later this year. Regardless of the outcome, this shortlisting solidifies Appleby Blue's place as a truly iconic addition to London's architectural tapestry.
